ASB Good as Gold - Rob Pink
ASB Good as Gold is an ASB initiative recognising, rewarding and helping wonderful people in our community. We ask the New Zealand public to nominate people who are making a real difference in their community, have grabbed hold of life against the odds or who really deserve help in a time of hardship. The recipients are featured on TV One’s Seven Sharp programme.
This week's ASB Good as Gold winner is Rob Pink of Rawene in the Hokianga. Rob is a hardworking Kiwi man, whose family has a long, proud history in Rawene. Rob loves Rawene and its people – in fact he’s widely known as the township’s unofficial Mayor!
Rob’s days are spent working tirelessly for the community: he represents the Rawene people and their interests to the local council, he runs the recycling centre and he has organised the refurbishment of the 100-year-old Rawene Bowling Club. Rob also has a vested interest in giving the kids of the Rawene community a great start in life: he drives the local school bus, he teaches them horsemanship skills (he’s even created a small horse club he has named the Hoiho Tribe) using his own horses, and in Summer he takes them out on the water to learn to water ski.
Rob is not a man who likes a fuss - but we were able to surprise him with the help of Rawene School, giving him $5000 to put toward any community project he wanted to and $5000 to spend on a treat for him and his wife.
Watch the video to see us surprise Rob with the Seven Sharp team.
